GOOD MEMORIES ARE HARD TO TELL: SPACE AGE

 When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon 40 years ago, they set off a style revolution—one small step for man, one giant leap for "fashionkind". In the mean time Sci-fi movies as "2001: Space Odyssey" by Stanley Kubrik and Arthur C. Clarke, and acclaimed "Barbarella" by Vadim, 1968 with Jane Fonda and his iconic style with garments of Paco Rabanne and Jacques Fonteray, moved fashion for another revolutionary level which is alive until nowadays - the 60's Space Age Fashion. 

Quando Neil Armstrong e Buzz Aldrin alunaram há 40 anos atrás, eles iniciaram uma revolução no estilo da época - Um pequeno passo para o homem, um passo gigantesco para os "fashionistas". Entretanto, os filmes de ficção científica viravam culto como "2001: Odisseia no Espaço" de Stanley Kubrik e Arthur C. Clarke, e o aclamado "Barbarella" de Roger Vadim, em 1968, com Jane Fonda e as suas icónicas botas, vestindo peças desenhadas por Paco Rabanne e Jacques Fonteray que trnasportaram a moda para uma outra dimensão cuja influência se estende aos nossos dias.

 The Space Age was introduced by Andre Courreges in 1964, but Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabanne were also its iconic leaders. An engineer by training, Andre Courreges was greatly influenced by architecture. 

"The Space Age" foi introduzida por Andrè Courrèges em 1964, mas Pierre Cardin e Paco Rabanne foram igualmente os seus icónicos mentores. Engenheiro de formação, Andrè Courrèges foi largamente influenciado pela sua paixão: a arquitectura. 

 The marvellous trio of designers made a truly revolution and everyone got the fashion fever of futuristic dress involved a minimalist uniform with an androgynous, geometric silhouette that might include a plastic bubble space helmet, a pair of black tights, and a few circular accessories. A-line miniskirts exposed stick-thin legs ready to plant themselves like flagpoles into the lunar landscape, while dresses eliminated unnecessary decoration to become space-cadet uniforms. Perspex helmets in varying shades mimicked real astronaut helmets, and together with stark all-white get-ups, the look embodied the moon itself, the silvery white orb in the sky that humans on earth were on a quest to land on. 

Os maravilhoso trio de criadores fizeram uma verdadeira revolução e todos se deixaram contagiar pela febre da nova moda que envolveu mini-vestidos futuristas como uniforme minimalista, uma silhueta geométrica e andrógina que incluia bolas em plástico e estilizados capacetes usados no espaço, um par de meias pretas e alguns acessórios circulares; Mini-saias em linha A expondo pernas magrérrimas prontas a se plantarem elas próprias tais mastros na paisagem lunar; Os vestidos eliminavam os detalhes desnecessários, num look "clean" como se fossem uniformes para cadetes do espaço. O próprio visual estava imbuído de referências ao satélite terrestre recentemente conquistado, onde o branco e o prateado dominavam a cena, em looks prontos a aterrar em qualquer cratera lunar.

 The materials were also influenced by the architecture, mainly the use of synthetic fabrics and the unusual metal and plastic to make all kind of garments.

Os materiais usados na altura eram eles próprios influenciados pela arquitectura, com o uso nada usual até ai de tecidos sintéticos, metal e plástico em toda a espécie de vestimentas. 

 Courreges designed the ready-to-wear line titled "Couture Future", in 1968, and the "Second Peau" which will be a flagship brand, in 1969.

Fashion never will be the same.
