For me to show a collection through a video and not in a live show is like a e-book instead of a real paper book: the content may be there but we miss the smell and the touch of the paper...
A life show is not only the clothes and acessories or the music, a fashion show is also what we can see backstage, the crew, fashionists dressed purposely for the occasion ,VIP's, photographers... the chaos before and after, all that which a video can't showed no matter how good it was made.
So, I can't agree with Gareth Pugh‘s Spring 2011 show notes state, “I feel very strongly that Fashion Film should not be seen as a secondary medium to live catwalk events, but a modern alternative.”
The 11 minute film, directed by Ruth Hogben, is starring the gray haired 90′s model Kristen McMenamy with appropriate techno house soundtrack – setting the mood for those wide-leg wrap pants which are pretty much tailored raver pants. The video is really great but it doesn't replace the show. It doesn't.
