There are only a few designers who can afford the luxury of creating a whole new universe, away from trends that retailers love. Rei Kawakubo is one of them. Each collection is an explosion of ideas and concepts made clothes, more or less wearable. But, in the end of the day, it is the fashion industry that follows what was done by Comme des Garçons some seasons later. Of course Rei invented a all new fashion language, having the pure creation as a great slogan. But guess what... Comme des Garçon is commercial too and the proof that creativity isn't the opposite of what the market's needs, and people want to wear.
