INSPIRATION: THE PASSION FOR CINEMA AND MY REVIEW TO THE OSCARS' NIGHT

 The Artist was the great Oscar's winner last night, a French  romantic comedy drama film directed by Michel Hazanavicius, starring Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. The story takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932 and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress, as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the talkies. But my favorite film from all the nominees is Hugo. Set in 1930s Paris the film tells us the story of an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station who is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

O Artista foi o grande vencedor dos Óscares atribuidos a noite passada, no Kodak Theatre de Los Angeles. Uma comédia romantica francesa dirigida por Michel Hazanavicius, com Jean Dujardin e Bérénice Bejo nos papéis principais. A história passa-se em Hollywood entre 1927 e 1932 e foca-se na relação entre uma antiga estrela dos filmes mudos e uma actriz em ascensão, numa época em que os filmes mudos ficaram fora de moda à medida que eram substituidos pelos sonoros. Mas, apesar de O Artist ser um filme belissimo, o meu favorito de entre os nomeados era A Invenção de Hugo. Passado em Paris em 1930, o filme conta-nos a história de um rapaz órfão que vivia na estação de comboios de Paris e que se vê envolvido num grande mistério que envolve o seu pai recém falecido e um robot.

Both of the movies are all about the great magic that the cinema is, nothing shorter than dreams in motion. I was totally absorbed by George Mélies' passion and his obsession by making films and fantastic worlds that across them which had so innovative solutions for that time. The Méliès' hand-painted colour films (  hand painted frame by frame) were impossible beautiful, and his nickname  the"Cinemagician" was absolutely right. "A Trip to the Moon" was the most gorgeous piece of art in motion that I know, and the illustrations are really fabulous. Scorsese's movie Hugo is a sincere and emotional tribute to The Cinemagician that you can't miss at all. 

Ambos os filmes são sobre a magia do cinema, nada menos do que os sonhos em acção. Fiquei absolutamente absorvida pela paixão de George Méliès e pelos seus fantásticos filmes coloridos à mão, quadro a quadro. Não é por acaso que chamavam a Méliès O Cinemágico! "Uma Viagem à Lua" é uma das suas obras-primas, cujos efeitos especiais aplicados às maravilhosas ilustrações, fazem deste filme um marco único na história do cinema. O filme de Scorsese é, assim, um tributo sincero e emocionado ao Cinemágico cujas invenções tecnológicas permitiram criar esses mundos fantásticos cuja beleza ainda hoje nos emociona extraordinariamente.

It's still funny that the two films that received awards and acclaimation, not only from their own industry, but also from critics and public, are two films that payed tribute to the cinema itself, especially in their early days, when people made ​​films by passion whose success was measured not necessarily by the pure arithmetic of the spectators, as now. So is this a sign that people are tired of remakes, sagas and astronomical mega productions from the big studios, but whose effects, technologically advanced, are not enough to hide the emptiness of the arguments? For curiosity this is the first time that a non Anglo-Saxon movie winnes the American Oscars.

Não deixa de ser engraçado que os dois filmes que mais receberam distinções e aclamações, não só da própria insdustria cinematográfica, mas, também da critica e do público, sejam dois filmes que homenageiam o próprio cinema, sobretudo, nos seus primórdios quando se fazia filmes por paixão cujo sucesso não era medido, necessariamente, por pura aritmética de espectadores, como agora. Será que este é um sinal de que as pessoas estão fartas de remakes, sagas e astronómicas produções de mega estúdios, mas, cujos efeitos tecnologicamente avançados não chegam para esconder o vazio dos argumentos? Só por curiosidade, esta foi a primeira vez que um filme não anglo-saxónico (O Artist foi filmado em Hollywood mas é francês) ganhou os oscares americanos.
