fashion heroines: JOSE ANTONIO TENENTE INSPIRED BY PORTUGUESE QUEEN MARIA PIA

D.Maria Pia of Saboia was the most stylish Portuguese Queen, she came from Italy (Turin) to marry with Portuguese King D. Luis I with only 14 years old. This year was the celebration of an hundred years of her death ( 1847- 1911). She lived in Ajuda Palace (Lisbon) with the King until the establishment of the republic in the country in 1911, the year of his death. D. Maria Pia was a modern mind ahead of her time, and she was a kind of refreshing it-girl for the old minded Portuguese women in the Court. So it is not a surprise that she inspired one the most beautiful short-collections of Jose Antonio Tenente, showed yesterday at Ajuda Palace, her home by many years which she renovated and made what the beautiful building is today.

D. Maria Pia foi a rainha portuguesa mais elegante e revolucionou a moda portuguesa entre as senhoras da corte. Veio de Itália, mais propriamente de Turim, com apenas 14 anos para casar com o Rei D.Luis I, e viveu no Palácio da Ajuda, em Lisboa, até à implantação da república no país em 1911, que foi também o ano da sua morte (1847-1911). Comemora-se, assim, em 2011, o centenário da sua morte, aquela que era uma autêntica It-girl da época, com uma mente moderna muito à frente do seu tempo e muito refrescante para o conservadorismo que abatia o país e o escureceu por muitos séculos. Por isso não constituiu propriamente uma surpresa que D.Maria Pia tenha inspirado uma das mais belas micro-colecções de José António Tenente, designer de moda convidado a juntar-se às celebrações do centenário da morte da It-Queen portuguesa apresentada ontem no Palácio da Ajuda, um dos mais belos edificios de Lisboa que a rainha renovou de forma brilhante e onde viveu até à sua extradição.

The short collection inspired in Queen Maria Pia have so beautiful pieces in rich fabrics used at that time as silk, lace, tafeta... first the long dresses had a more theatrical vibes with ruffles and a long tail, but the last pieces gave us a modern urban feeling perfectly wearable mixed with basic pieces. The white blouses with a back tie and ruffles in the front was my favourite. I loved also the black short dress with overstate shoulders. The golden lace top is a statement piece and very trend.

A micro-colecção inspirada na Rainha Maria Pia de Sabóia tem peças realmente magnificas, em tecidos ricos usados na época como as rendas, a seda, tafetás... primeiro vieram os vestidos longos com caudas de franzidos a arrastar pelo chão no andar ondeante das modelos nas suas saias justiissimas, com vibrações mais teatrais. Mas, as últimas peças trouxeram-nos um mais moderno e urbano twist, perfeitamente vestiveis com peças mais básicas. As minhas preferidas foram as blusas brancas com laço atrás e babados em renda à frente. Adorei o vestido preto curto com ombros realçados. Já o top de renda dourado é uma peça statement e muito tendência.
