Totem contra Tabu

Eles que transformam

O Tabu em Totem

Para a alienação magestosa

e adoração acéfala

Da multidão convencida e vigorosa

A diferença que se despreza

Estátuas silenciosas de Ângelo

Santidade, sedução e reza!

Tabu versus Totem

O proibido e a protecção

INSPIRATION: EL ALMA DEL MUNDO

I loved the work of Spanish photographer Miguel Ángel Sánchez, mainly this project "El Alma Del Mundo" / The World's Soul (Egypt 2009-2011). He moved from Madrid to Cairo in 2009, and he captured through the portraits of different kind of Egyptian people from several social and economic levels, and by his amazing photographic eye, the greatest political and social storms of a generation, meaning the the nuances of 21st-century Egyptian society. What I loved the most was his 17th-century Spanish painter's style influenced by baroque imagery and the Italian and Spanish naturalism by Caravaggio and Ribera.

In an interview Sánchez said: " This (Egyptian) revolution was fought in the street, so I made photos as a diary. I opened my studio to make portraits of all the people who were fighting and making this sacrifice for their present and future. These days were really hard. During these days, the emotions of 20 million people exploded in Cairo. It was like a mine full of gold for an artist. I just had to be very perceptive and take advantage of this magical, emotional and unique moment."

Adorei descobrir o trabalho de Miguel Ángel Sánchez, sobretudo o seu mais recente projecto "A Alma do Mundo" (Egipto 2009-2011). O fotógrafo espanhol mudou-se de Madrid para o Cairo em 2009 e desde aí o seu fantástico olho fotográfico, através de retratos de pessoas comuns de diferentes proveniências sociais e económicas, captou as grandes tempestades politicas e sociais que assolaram a sociedade egipcia no sec. XXI. O que mais me chamou a atenção foi o seu estilo marcadamente influênciado pela pintura espanhola e italiana do Sex XVII, o seu imaginário barroco e o naturalismo de Caravaggio e Ribera.

Sánchez disse numa entrevista: " Esta revolução (Egipcia) foi ateada na rua, então fiz as minhas fotos diariamente. Abria o meu estúdio para fazer retratos das pessoas que combatiam e faziam imensos sacrificios em prol do seu presente e futuro. Esses dias eram especialmente duros. Durante esse tempo as emoções de 20 milhões de pessoas explodiram no Cairo. Foi como uma mina cheia de ouro para um artista. Tive que ser muito perspicaz e tirar partido desse momento mágico e muito emotivo."
